In a few weeks, maybe a month or so, people will look at the title of this study and say, "Huh! Loom bands. That is SO last week!"
People will think of the film Frozen and sing, "(We) let it go!"
"Minecraft? Angry Birds? The Lego Movie? - what are THEY?!"
Different hairstyles come and go ...

... thank goodness. And clothing fashions change constantly.

And back in the 1970's, when men looked as dapper as these four gentlemen, this was the wallpaper in my bedroom.

Throughout all these shifts and changes in ideas, and fashion, and trends, one thing remains unchanged. Solid. Firm.
The Bible says that "All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of the Lord endures for ever." (1 Peter 1:24-25) (Also Isaiah 40:7-8, James 1:10-11).
God does not change. He is always loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, good, gentle, faithful and self-controlled (Galatians 5:22-23). He always protects and He never fails (1 Corinthians 13:4-8). He is always just (fair) (Isaiah 30:18). He is always strong (Psalm 59:18). He's always available to you (Proverbs 8:17).
People who love God can enjoy passing fashions and crazes as much as any other person. But we need to remember that these things are not important to God. However beautiful someone looks on the outside, it is the inward beauty of the heart that God is interested in (1 Peter 3:3-4). How you look on the inside is much more important to God.
It's easy to get caught up in the latest 'craze' and spend money on or pester for something that - if you think about it - you really don't need. The Bible tells us not to follow the world, but to change the way we think so that we understand what God wants for us (Romans 12:2).
We need to be content whatever our circumstances are (Philippians 4:12).

A CHALLENGE!
Next time you see something that you would re-eeeeeeeeeeally like, why not save up enough money to pay for it twice, and give the 'extra' cash away to someone who needs it more than you? Ask God who He would like you to bless. Perhaps He'd like you to donate to a food bank, or to a homeless charity? Maybe there's someone you know who could use it for something they need? And remember to be humble when you give, not blow a trumpet and tell the world how amazing you are, so that God will reward you (Matthew 6:3-4).
